A Galaxy Far, Far Away...: June 2004

Wednesday, June 30, 2004

Well hey, at least I'm not a statistic

98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you're one of the 2% who hasn't, copy & paste this into your journal.

Can't say I've ever had the desire the smoke weed before, but I have been offered on several accounts.

No matter how hard you try you can't stop us now

Now that Kazaa has virtually been shut down (when I say shut down, I mean terrorized by the RIAA with millions upon millions of fake files being shared to deter P2P software users).

But now there is a new excellent P2P application, which I picked up off of the Screen Savers show on G4TechTV called Shareaza. You can check it out at www.shareaza.com. It's basically a new version of Kazaa that will be up for around a year, shut down, and then another -aza will start up again :-D.

As Dan put it, there will NEVER be a point in time when P2P file sharing will come to a halt. There will ALWAYS be P2P no matter how much companies take action.

Take that RIAA...you nazi bastards.

The past few days

Well, before Ryan and Eric came over Wednesday, I had filled out an application for Best Buy online and also filled one out for Showcase, which I had to actually go turn in myself...lame.

When they came over we actually busted out some of the board games...Star Wars Monopoly and Star Wars Trivial Pursuit. I must say that playing monopoly with only 3 people isn't quite as fun as it could be with all 8 pieces on the board since that's alot of revenue being made with passing Go, drawing cards, etc. Trivial Pursuit wasn't that hard, but came off harder than before because it has been many months since I've seen the original Star Wars trilogy. Not to mention, now we have a fun little thing we do when need be and it hails from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back I'm saving that up for September 21, assuming school doesn't get in the way. We also watched Reservoir Dogs, one of the best films ever by none other than the man himself, Quentin Tarantino. Wagons East! was pretty good, but unfortunately fat comedians tend to do westerns before they decide to croak like John Candy in this and Chris Farley in Almost Heroes. God damn yous!

Then Friday night we decided to go see Fahrenheit 9/11, which probably would've actually had more impact on me had I been more involved, politically. Why I've never been very politically involved is because 1) I hardly ever watch/read/listen to the news 2) I seemed to be one of the only people who didn't have any kind of politically-oriented SEAP 3) My 18th birthday was this past year actually giving me a purpose i.e. voting 4) Politics tend to bore me, but I'll probably have to get past that. I've seen Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore and found that to be a very good flick, which gave me more grounds as to why to see this movie. Had Bowling for Columbine been 100% uncut crap, I probably wouldn't have even taken notice of this movie.

(9 hours later...) Sry, I've had this post up since about 8:00 pm Saturday, but got so into online poker I never finished writing it.

This new Pacific Poker thing Eric showed was pretty crazy. You can either play with fake money or have the option to play with real freakin' money. Furthest I got was 52nd out of around 700 or 800 people...I can't remember, but it was a huge group. Texas Hold 'Em style. Although I don't watch many sports other than baseball, I like watching the "inside" sports. I watch most Billiards games that are on, I've seen a few dart competitions, the World Series of Poker has been these past couple weeks and I've watched many other poker things on ESPN...now all they need are ping-pong, air hockey, and foosball.

As for the poker thing, I'm cool with it now that I know for sure the proper deck is in usage. Just point me where and tell me when.

I think that about covers everything.

Tally ho!

Yeah, so my mom came into my room today and pretty much chewed me out for not finding a job today "like I was suppose to". As of right now, it all comes down to Best Buy or Showcase Milford for me. If those two don't work out then I'll have to rethink other places to work. One things for sure is I'll never work at a video rental place as long as I live...or until I'm desperate.

Right now I'm not sure what to do. My mom gave me that tone where if I don't at least attempt to get a job, she'll start taking away privileges of mine i.e. TV, computer, overnighters, going out with friends, etc. She didn't mention it, but I know the next time she says something, that'll be when she mentions it.

Guess we'll see what happens by the end of the week.

I Love the Nightlife

Well then...a night on the town down in Cincy was fun.

We first headed off to Newport on the Levee and were in GameWorks for a while past ten because we were all 18. Another taste of how it feels to be 18. We all four played a game of HyperBowl...basically bowling on crack where we rolled our ball through the streets of Tokyo. We then played a game of air hockey on crack where we all four could play and there were 3 or 4 pucks on the table at once. Ryan and I pod raced on Malastare, but my machine froze up out of nowhere which was fucked up and gay. Dan and Eric played some DDR and we all raced in the Daytona 500.

When we decided to leave there and begin heading towards the club, we walked across the bridge...

...and we walked some more...

...and more...

...and a little more...

...and after about a 35 minute walk we made it to Motions nightclub.

Not a bad place and as I expected, a cloud of cig smoke loomed over our heads and a whole bunch of drinking. There was also the WEBN patrol there, a wet t-shirt contest, and some of the finest girls workin' the pole like it's their 40 hour a week day job...mmmmmmmmm. I don't think I've ever heard more rap than that place. Like I said, I'm sure all the black people there got their moneys worth.

Funny thing is that when we were leaving there was a club across the street call The Dock and thanks to Dan, we knew it was a gay bar and some girls were trying to invite us in there lol.

We reached the bridge and some chick asked for a light. Luckily enough, I had my Zippo on me. We left Cincy and went to Steak N Shake in Eastgate. Went over to Ryan's, watched him be raped by Perfect Sims.

So I get home from all of this today and learn that Griffey has hit his 500th career homerun, the Reds are able to win a game 6-0, Tampa Bay is in a 10 game winning streak, and my parents have a bought a big ol' trampoline. Our last one was sent to hell and back when a tornado killed it.

What a Father's Day weekend it has been.

Wednesday, June 16, 2004

So I went to a Red's game yesterday...

...and I have got to say that was one of best sports games I've been too ever. The crowd was really into it, Griffey was on the verge of hitting his 500th homer, the Reds were at end of their 7 game losing streak, and they did it in comeback fashion too in order to take them to the 11th inning. Loved every minute of it...well except for Bong. Get rid of his ass.

Sunday, June 13, 2004

OMGWTFHAX?!

I have no idea wtf is going on, but the Reds have lost 6 games in a row. 6!!! That's back-to-back series sweeps by the A's and Indians. It's really frustrating watching these games when they have a good 6+ run lead going into the last three innings and suddenly it's tied up. Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting their talents because for how big their payroll is, they have exceptional talent and are doing far better than I would've ever expected them to do. I've said it a million times and I'll say it again...we need good pitching. It's a miracle with all the games we've won only because we've been able to outhit the other team, but they're always nipping our heels. Never is it a blowout...we always have to win 8-7 or 6-4....never 9-0 or 7-1. No wonder why Graves has 26 or so saves...but I'm sorry, paying him $6 million a year to convert only 26/31 saves is rediculous.

Griffey is at 499 homers. About time he gets his head out of his ass and begins playing baseball. I do wish he would hustle just teeny weeny more.

Another fun time at the Brentlinger estates

Just for the record, let me reiterate what Ryan posted aboot the movies we watched while at my house the last few days:
Alien
Aliens
Kevin James: Sweat the Small Stuff
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Austin Powers: Goldmember
American Pie
American Pie 2
Pulp Fiction
Eurotrip (d/led)
Mafia!
The Girl Next Door (d/led)
...and Ryan and I watched an episode of Family Guy (He's too sexy for his fat) before we left for Peter's surprise party...SUPRISE!!!:P

All of those, can of course, be found on my AIM subprofile with a rating from moi except for Kevin James and Family Guy because I only rate movies.

We watched only the first half of the Alien quadrilogy, which imho is one of the most bad-ass horror/sci-fi flicks ever.

We busted out the N64 for some good ol' fashion four-player deathmatch on Perfect Dark. Probably second most bad-ass game next to Goldeneye...well at least in the FPS genre of gaming. KOTOR has RPG, Age of Empires has RTS, Hitman has third-person, and GTA has whatever the fuck genre it is. Wow, let me tell you, it sure was weird holding that controller for the first time in a loooooooooong time...I felt like I was fucking retarded...like I was trying to throw a baseball with my left hand or something.

We had a hell of time playing SSBM on the Cube. Mayhem as usual.

Went frisbee golfing, but did horrible this time around (-3) because it was about 150 degrees outside from humidity and then spent about 20 minutes buried deep within the bush looking for a lost frisbee. Needless to say I was exhausted and about the last 4 or 5 holes I couldn't even get the frisbee 30 feet out without it hitting the ground. No more golfing for me in an oven...jesus harry christ.

The next day we SURPRISED Peter at his house with his SURPRISE party. We had pool noodle fights in the pool for a few hours, ate a burger, jumped back in the pool almost immediately being such the rebel that I am and not waiting the mandatory half-hour, hit a ball at a duct tape goal, watch Dan play Dee Dee Arr, made jokes about your mom, quoted some movies for the eleventy billionth time, and went home. Woo what a day/night/day again/night again.

For the record, may I state that having anyone over at my house is always a fun time. Never a need to ask "Is it ok?" because for those of you who don't know, my cousin and I use to stay at each others houses every single weekend back in elementary and middle school. My parents didn't care and his didn't care. So needless to say having people over at my house all the time really isn't a bother for them...and not to mention we're in the basement and the noise is most certainly at a low roar. I also figure we should spend as much time together as possible because, for those who may not notice, when we go back to "school" we're not all going to be in the same classes anymore...hell, not even the same state for some. I don't know about you fellas, but I'm trying to make the most of it before college and whenever I get a possible job that just might get in the way.

I'm out ya'll.

Take that Arago...I mean Viggo Mortensen

The in-crowd

Well, since everyone else has done it...why not I?

Leave a comment if you actually read this thing (since nobody leaves comments for my other posts.)

In response to Ryan's comment (since comments don't allow HTML tags)...you mean one of these?

The end? Or only the beginning?

I must say that yesterday was pretty awesome.

The turnout of people was just fine by me. It didn't end up like my cousin's or Kevin's where every Tom, Dick, and Harry showed up. Only my aunts, uncles, cousin's, and none other than my great group of friends (in no specific order): Eric, Dan, Ryan, Jason, Peter, Casey, Kevin, and Karen. To all who came thanks bunches and I'll be sure to send out the "formal" thank yous later this week.

While at the party we had the wonderful game of cornhole in the back. Jason sure is one crazy bastard at that game. Although I must say that me getting 3 ringers out of 4 shots was just...wow. My cousin, Dan, stopped by which was great because I don't really get to see him too often anymore now that we're older and can't just chill at each others houses all the time anymore :(. Well, he's going off to film school in Florida in 8 days which is what I always thought he'd do someday. His girlfriend Kyla is one of the coolest people (and pretty hot too.) They've been together for over a year now. One of the biggest surprises was most certainly the slideshow my father made for me with pictures of me from birth to present with great songs to go with them: Star Wars intro, Ghostbusters theme, TMNT theme, James Bond theme, and Chop Suey! I had always wondered why my dad wanted to know some of my favorite songs about a month ago. It was most definitely unexpected, to say the least and i was enjoyin' it rather than being embarrassed by it, despite what many analysts believed.

Not only do my party stop there, but we all decided to go to Woodland Mound for a little bit of frisbee golf. While Kevin and I waited for Dan, Ryan, and Eric there was a truck filled with girls in the back of it who looked to be around 13 and of course had to be bitches and shout out at us saying something like "Hey sexy!" If I were conduct a study, I would say that if you were put a person in a situation by themselves they won't say jack shit and will be a sane person...when put in a situation with 2 or more of their friends they become showboating obnoxious fuckshit ass-ramming cocksucking bitchwhores...same goes for guys. One of my "pet peeves", you could say.

Anyways, frisbee golf was fun and brought back good memories because we use to play here all the time when I was active in Boy Scouting. It's been a good 3 or 4 years since I've been there. I remember my most favorite thing to do was go in the visitor's center and go down the curvy slide. I don't mean to brag, but I actually ended up with a -12 our first time around and hopefully not our last before the end of the summer. What's funny is I think we all got our frisbees in the forest, but thankfully suffered no casualties and we able to leave the park with all the frisbees we had. I ended up in the valley 2 or 3 times, like a fuckin' troll under the bridge or something.

So late into the evening we came back to my place, watched some MXC, Kevin left, watched Penn & Teller's Bullshit and were up till about 5, woke up around 12:30, had a very odd choices of breakfast like a Slim-Jim, leftover cake, and Fruity pebbles, watched some interesting movie on Comedy Central, everyone left, and I sit here. I think I can safely say this was the end of all the grad parties I'm aware of.

What a fun weekend!

Live from David's House, it's SATURDAY NIGHT!!!!!

This is a guest post from none other than Ryan.

I'm over at David's house, and Blogger.com was still logged in as him. So I'm posting, and curious to see what he'll do with this post. Gotta go before he catches me.

Adios,
Garwood.

This quiz from Andy...

...who had to type a page for each of the answers. Mother. Of. God.

FIRSTS
First job: A baseball umpire
First screen name: The very first one was my first account with AOL, which was DJBrentlin, but it wasn't long after that I changed my name to something other than my real name. That's when, I believe, I made DaBigMan14.
First funeral: Hmmm...I want to say my Grandpa's, but I always end up going to random funerals I have forgotten which was first.
First pet: Wasn't necessarily my pet, but my parents had a terrier named Toby through my birth and died when I was 9 or something from a softball-sized tumor in the stomach...so yeah. I'd say my first pet was my hamster Woody who was the most bitchin' pet ever and was so nice and didn't bite...that's when my sister accidentally dropped him on our cement floor in the laundry room, which caused his death a week or two later.
First piercing: I have none.
First Tattoo: None of these things either.
First credit card: Heh, yeah right.
First enemy: I'd have to say Nick Morgan (not the one a year ahead of me, but the one in my grade with the carrot top, ultra white skin, and faggoty laugh who nobody likes). That was mainly back in elementary school. Worst thing I could think I did to him was pie face him while on the bus to school and ram the back of his head into the window frame. That shut him up for a while. I didn't like him mainly because he didn't like me for some unknown reason. Might've been the glasses. Typically anyone who doesn't like me, I return them the favor.
First favorite musician: I'd have to say Weird Al all thanks to my uncle who let us listen to his tapes on our way down to Gatlinsburg some 8 or so years ago.

LASTS
Last car ride: My way home with Eric from Ms. Conway's house. We stopped by the mall a bit and played a couple rounds of DDR nonstop action. The 2nd time around reverse somehow got turned on so yeah.
Last Kiss: Where's the first one? heh
Last movie watched: I just finished watching the third and final movie of the LOTR trilogy. Guess that would make it The Return of the King, huh? Still amazing. Probably this trilogy is second only to Star Wars.
Last beverage drank: Caffeine Free Diet Coke...mmmmmmmmm.
Last Phone call: Think that was Eric a few hours ago while listening to him strum on those g-strings...
Last food: Vanilla ice cream...in a bowl...
Last CD played: A Queen CD?

NOW
Single or Taken: Single mmmkthxbye
Sex: Dude
Birthday: December 9, 1985...hurray for me!
Sign: Sagitarrius...I'm the archer! Legolas is my hero!
Siblings: Sister Katie...ok, enough about her...more about me now.
Hair color: Dark brown
Shoe size: 11, I guess...it's been too long since I've bought shoes to remember and I don't feel like looking at my other shoes...
Height: 6'2"...yep

Right now what are you...
Wearing: Islands of Adventure Dueling Dragons yin-yang tshirt, pajama bottoms, sox, and bocksers :P
Drinking: Some water...taste so good you want it bad
Thinking about: Why God why do I have to drive my sister and her friend to KI tomorrow? Hopefully Karen's party doesn't suck. I wonder who all will come to my party. Did I leave the iron on? Gosh my arm itches. Hey, what's that noise...must be the wind. Oh my god the movies are due back tonite...o wait, it's tomorrow. Man, 2 in the morning and I'm not a bit tired. wtf? I wish I had remote control lighting so I guess I'll just get outta my chair and turn on the lights. Must. Purchase. KOTOR.
Listening to: My Winamp player, which right now it's Woo Hoo by the 5.6.7.8.s from the Kill Bill soundtrack.
A is for age: 18 meaning I can vote, register for the SS (to be more specific, the Selective Service), purchase and use tobacco products, legally buy porno but why on earth would I do that? Yay kazaa
B is for boyfriend: It is? Well, I guess being one would be nice, but being one well...umm...wouldn't fit my way of life. Anyone who makes a joke about this saying something along the lines of "Sure David, that's what you want us to think" is a faggot themselves and are completely unoriginal.
C is for career: Computer person
D is for dad's name: Donald
E is for essential item to bring to a party: Ummmm...judging from the past few parties I've been to, definitely cornhole.
F is for favorite song at the moment: They are all equal to me.
G is for good movie you recently saw: The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy
H is for hometown: Amelia, Ohio...only a speck on the map.
I is for instruments you play: None, but I have always wanted to play guitar, bass guitar, piano, or drums.
J is for jewel that you like: Fuck if I know, but I do like saying "Cubic Zirconium" though.
K is for kids: Burn them all.
L is for living arrangements: My basement...a home away from home....if it were away from home that is.
M is for mom's name : Rhonda
N is for number of people you've slept with: I lost count after 247.......
O is for overnight hospital stays: Never ever.
P is for phobia[s]: Well now that I know if I were to ever fight Andy, I'd wear a super-absorbant suit of sponges, but for me I can't think of anything I'm notably terrified of.
Q is for quote you like: "May the Force be with you."
R is for right, what's on your right: My HP Printer/Scanner/Copier on one of my stands.
S is for sexual position: *flips through Kama Sutra* Hmmm, this wheelbarrow thingy looks interesting. O wait, scratch that...the reverse cowgirl, no doubt......
T is for time you wake up: The past few days when nobody has stayed over, I've been getting up at 1 and 2 in the afternoon...o well, I've got the whole night ahead of me :)
U is for unique trait(s): Same as Andy, I have crazy hands from the years past with videogaming. I can also do some weird stuff with my tongue when applicable :P
V is for vegetable you love: I'll go with corn on this one...preferably on the cob, but beggars can't be choosers.
W is for worst habit: Biting fingernails?
X is for x-rays you've had: Lots of my mouth (from the dentists, of course) and one of my fractured leg.
Y is for yummy food you make: The microwave is my friend. Egg rolls, pizza, hot dogs, and umm yeah.
Z is for zodiac sign: Ok, now we're just getting repetitive...

Now that that's over with, hurray!

Time to bring on the marathons

At this very moment I am beginning the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I rented the third one (because I'm waiting for the über special edition in November) and since I rented it, I want to rewatch the other two just for the sake of watching them all three in a row.

The next -logy might be the Alien quadrilogy with Ryan and if he doesn't want to finish it out, then I shall finish it all by myself.

Then, when I feel like it, I'll go buy Matrix Revolutions and watch those three.

Sometime during the summer, I'm going to watch every single Bond movie because I can and I will.

Others might include include Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Terminator, and maybe the rest of the Family Guys episodes I haven't seen on the DVDs yet. Many of you may notice I didn't include Star Wars on there and that is for one reason only...I'm waiting for the release of it on DVD so that when I watch it, I want to be blown away. Episodes I and II might be watched though and whenever III comes out, it'll be a nonstop I-VI watching no doubt.
